House at Vanda Crescent (2011)
As one passes the swimming pool, the spiral staircase is the first design element that one would encounter as one enters through the main door. The walls surrounding the spiral staircase play up the sculptural qualities of the space by taking on different textures and materials. This gesture gives different visual and experiential qualities in the vertical spiral movement, as well as orientates the person along the journey. The use of mirrors lends a touch of drama as they invite a contextual superimposition of the surrounding natural environment into the vertical movement.
